Chemical Tempered Glass
Definition:
Chemical tempered glass(Also known as ionic exchange enhancement glass, low temperature ion exchange strengthened glass, or ion exchange strengthened glas):
Chemical tempered glass is a kind of glass that the glass surface of the small radius of alkali metal ions Na + (0.98 Å) with large radius in the molten salt of alkali metal ions K + (1.33 Å) are exchanged, resulting in congestion on to the surface, thus forming a compressive stress enhanced layer. Through the ionic exchange, the alkaline metal ion of glass surface is placed by other alkaline metal ion in salt melted, enhancing its mechanical strength.Chemical steel have certain requirements on the content of alkali metal in the glass. The number of ion exchange and exchange layer depth is the key indicators of enhancement, the strength of glass is also affected by the quality of surface quality and edge processing.
Product Characteristics:
1.Higher strength: it is 9-15 times higher of ordinary glass, its maximum destruct-resistance press is 700Mpa. the bending strength is 3-5 times of ordinary glass.
2.Its strength may be adjusted to the request of customer (from 450Mpa to 650Mpa).

4.Absolutely no self-detonate problem(temper tolerance 120°C).

Theory:
Chemical tempered glass is processed through low-temperature ion exchange, the so-called low-temperature systems refers to the exchange temperature is not higher than the glass transition temperature range, it is relative to the high-temperature ion exchange process the temperature range above the transition temperature and below softening point. The simple principle of the low-temperature ion exchange process is in the alkali salt solution, about 400 °C, a smaller radius of the ions with larger radius solution ion exchage in the glass surface, such as lithium ions in the glass exchange with potassium or sodium in the solution, sodium ions in the glass exchange with potassium ions in the solution, with the difference on the volume of alkali ions in the glass surface the formation of embedded compression stress complete. The number of large ion squeeze embedded itself in the surface of the glass is proportional to surface compressive stress, so the number of ion exchange and the depth of exchange are key indicators of enhancement. Ion exchange tempered glass and the physical tempered glass have different stress distribution, the former’s thickness of the compressive stress of surface layer is smaller, the balance of internal tensile stress is not big, which is why the internal tensile stress of the chemical tempered glass layer destroyed, it is unlike the physical steel the glass crumbled into small pieces. Due to ion exchange layer is very thin, chemical tempered glass is used to significantly enhance the effect of thin glass, especially for enhanced 2 ~ 4mm thick glass,thick glass enhancement was not significant.
